Managing Jobsite Safety

One of a crew chief's tasks is to maintain a safe work environment for the weatherization crew. But safety awareness goes beyond that. The chief is also responsible for making sure the house will be safe for the people who live there. To do this, the chief has to always be aware of changing conditions in the house while the work is ongoing, and needs to make sure that the work done on the house does create any unsafe conditions for the homeowners.

After completing this lesson, crew chiefs will be able to:

  • Articulate the importance of job site safety for workers
  • Recognize a variety of unsafe conditions and how to avoid/correct them
  • Identify common material and chemical hazards
  • Explain the importance of homeowner safety and know how to safeguard it
