Qualitative Air Flow Analysis

Qualitative air flow analysis allows us to use some simple tests to determine where the general air leaks are in the building. Whereas the first blower door test gives us the general airtightness of the home, and the zone pressure diagnostic tests further narrows down where the air leaks might be, qualitative air flow analysis goes one step further in pin-pointing where the air is coming in through the building envelope.

After completing this lesson, crew chiefs will be able to:

  • Define qualitative air flow analysis
  • Understand the difference between qualitative and quantitative analysis
  • Describe how to conduct a qualitative air flow analysis of a home
