Infrared Analysis

During a thermographic inspection, the auditor uses a special camera to take infrared images of the home. These images can be very useful in pinpointing areas of the home where insulation is missing, or where there are gaps in the air barriers. Learning to interpret an infrared image of the home can help you reduce the time spent tracking down leaks in the building envelope.

After completing this lesson, crew chiefs will be able to:

  • Explain what information a thermographic camera captures with its infrared images
  • Describe how infrared images are best taken
  • Use infrared images to set weatherization priorities
