Combustion Safety Protocols

To ensure the health and safety of the occupants, it's extremely important to test combustion equipment for efficiencies, potential leaks, and the general operation of the system. Analyzing the combustion efficiency of a gas appliance can also tell you if the system is running as it should, or if there are potential problems that need to be addressed.

After completing this lesson, crew chiefs will be able to:

  • Identify the tools needed to perform a combustion analysis test
  • Explain how to test the combustion efficiency of a forced air furnace
  • Explain how to test the combustion efficiency of a naturally drafting water heater
