Assessing Insulation Performance

As part of the building assessment, an auditor has to evaluate the insulation in a house. It's important to record the type, level, and location of the insulation. Some older homes might not have any insulation at all in the walls and ceilings. The information gathered in the assessment will be input into the weatherization software as part of the heat loss and heat gain calculations for the building. The auditor will also record his findings as part of the work order he writes for the crew chief and installers, which will help them with their work as they upgrade the insulation levels in the home.

After completing this lesson, auditors will be able to:

  • Recognize the common types of insulation in a home
  • Describe tips for finding insulation in a house
  • Understand what to do with information about the insulation types and levels in a house
