Assessing Window Performance

As part of the building assessment, an auditor will spend time looking at the windows and exterior doors. The window and door assessment will include information about their types, sizes, locations, and general working conditions. This information will be used to produce the computer-software-driven building report and the auditor's work order that will get passed on to the crew chief and installers at the start of the weatherization job.

After completing this lesson, auditors will be able to:

  • Describe the different types of windows found in homes
  • Understand the importance of reducing air leaks around windows and doors
  • Understand how to find leaks
  • Understand the importance of assessing door and window casings
