HVAC Inspections

As part of the building assessment, an auditor will spend lots of time evaluating the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems in a house. HVAC systems are important because not only do they use most of a home's energy, but they are also responsible for the occupants' comfort. The information about the HVAC system will be used in the auditor's building report and the work order that gets passed to the crew chief and installers.

After completing this lesson, auditors will be able to:

  • Recognize different types of heating systems
  • Explain what to look for when assessing HVAC systems
  • Describe some of the ways that HVAC systems are improved
  • Understand what to do with the information found during the assessment
