ASHRAE Fundamentals

Auditors need to understand the fundamentals behind the ASHRAE ventilation standards in order to figure out how much ventilation a house needs. In this lesson, auditors will learn why ventilation is important. They will be shown a simple example of how the ASHRAE standard is used to calculate the ventilation needs of a sample house. They will also learn about the three types of ventilation systems that can be used to bring fresh air into a home.

After finishing the lesson, auditors will be able to:

  • Explain the importance of figuring out the fresh air ventilation needs of a house
  • Understand how the ASHRAE standards are used to calculate the ventilation needs of a house
  • Be familiar with the mathematical equations used to determine ventilation needs of a house
  • Recognize the different methods for ventilating a home
