Duct Leakage and Design Diagnostics

Duct leakage can account for over 30% of a home's energy loss and can contribute to moisture and comfort problems. Using the tools available, the auditor can easily measure the relative air leaks in the duct system and identify design flaws in duct systems that contribute to energy loss.

After completing this lesson, auditors will be able to:

  • Explain how to measure duct leakage in the home using a flow hood
  • Identify improper duct designs
  • Make recommendations for improvements to a home's duct system
