Measuring Air and Duct Leakage

Air and duct leakage can lead to significant and unnecessary energy use in a mobile home. This lesson identifies some of the most common diagnostic tools used to measure air and duct leakage, including blower door, pressure pan, and duct blaster tests. Also discussed is the use of an airflow indicator, a simple tool used to locate and confirm leaky areas of the home. These test results can provide a quantitative measure of energy savings potential in a mobile home.

After completing this lesson, auditors will be able to:

  • Identify some of the most common diagnostic tools used to measure air and duct leakage
  • Explain how to set up and conduct a blower door test, a pressure pan test, and a duct blaster test
  • Describe how to use an airflow indicator to identify leaky spots in the mobile home
